3 ways to communicate with your employees successfully

Do you ever feel like your employees are not receiving the message you trying to deliver? You cannot get their full attention? Or you do not get enough input from your co-workers?

As a leader you should always keep your employees accountable, you need to figure out how people approach different problems and how they react to certain situations. One of the major components in being a successful leader is being able to communicate in a way, so that others could receive and understand the message that you are trying to deliver. Here are the three main steps to a successful communication:

Repeat
Yes, it is very important. For some people saying some things over and over again might seem childish or unnecessary, but in reality, adults do appreciate when they are reminded of various things. Try to repeat the same message but in a variety of settings: during lunch, coffee break, meeting or conference. Avoid communication via internet or cellphone, it will decrease the direct contact with your employee. When delivering a message make sure it is honest, concise and focused, in other words know what they need to know.

Connect
This is focused more on the presentations, meetings and conferences. Be specific, people, in general, cannot focus their attention for a very long time, so instead of talking over and over again, get to the point, make is simple. Think of it as you want a 5-year old to understand what you are trying to say, do not get into too much of details. However, if you are using some terms that are more difficult, try to explain them in a few words, this will help your listeners to understand the main idea.

Listen
It is important to understand that not everyone has the ability to step up and speak their mind. As a leader you must find a way to listen to your employees and adapt to the way they communicate. Being available for a conversation can be a really good team morale booster. Accept any feedback that is given, regardless of whether it is positive or negative. Instead of judging your employee’s thoughts and opinions, try to appreciate it. Finding time to talk to your co-workers might result in new ideas, solutions and innovations.

Of course, communication is a process and like most of the things in life, your communication is not going to improve dramatically over night. However, if you follow these three steps, not only will you be able to strengthen your relationships with fellow employees, but also increase the chance of success within the company. Whether it is increasing your sales, signing a big deal or expanding your business. At the end of the day the success of your business depends on the performance of your employees.
