These are the points worth checking before you accept.<\/p>\n<h2>Housing from your employer is a taxable benefit<\/h2>\n<p>The 2026 value added to your taxable income is 151 kr a day for board and lodging together, 107 kr for all meals and 44 kr for lodging alone. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skatteetaten.no\/satser\/kost-og-losji---sats-for-fordelsbeskatning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Skatteetaten rates<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Rent cannot simply be taken from your pay<\/h2>\n<p>As a general rule, a wage deduction must be required by law, follow from a collective agreement, or be agreed in writing in advance. Ask for the amount in writing before you sign. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arbeidstilsynet.no\/lonn-og-ansettelse\/lonn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arbeidstilsynet on wage deductions<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>What private rent costs<\/h2>\n<p>Average monthly rent for 1 room in 2025 was 8 770 kr nationally, 10 090 kr in Oslo and B\u00e6rum, 7 510 kr in Bergen and 6 570 kr in towns of 2 000 to 19 999 people.
